Job Description
The University of Nairobi is seeking a qualified Adherence Counsellor to be based in Kisumu. The successful candidate will provide professional counseling and support to participants within healthcare settings, specifically focusing on HIV care and treatment adherence. The role requires a candidate with strong interpersonal skills, clinical counseling experience, and specific certifications in clinical practice and ethics.
Responsibilities
Provide counseling and support to patients to improve adherence to healthcare protocols, particularly in HIV care.
Build trustful relationships with participants to facilitate effective support.
Manage and enter data into electronic health records or similar clinical systems.
Collaborate within an HIV clinic setup in a public hospital environment.
Apply motivational interviewing techniques to encourage treatment adherence.
Participate in clinical studies as required.
Qualifications and Requirements
A Degree or Diploma in Counselling, Psychology, or an equivalent qualification.
Minimum of 1 year of experience in counseling or support roles within healthcare settings, preferably in HIV care.
Prior experience working within an HIV clinic setup in a public hospital.
Current Certificate of Good Clinical Practice (GCP) is a MUST.
Current certificate in Human Subject Protection is a MUST.
A practicing license from the Counsellors & Psychologist Board is a MUST.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Proficiency in data entry and management using electronic health records.
Desirable Skills and Experience
Additional training in adherence counseling or motivational interviewing techniques.
Experience in clinical studies is an added advantage.
Strong empathy and interpersonal competencies.
