Job Description
Samuel Hall is an independent think tank specialized in field research and social impact. We are seeking a Youth Intern to provide comprehensive support for an upcoming high-level event in Nairobi focused on climate change and displacement. This role is ideal for a proactive undergraduate student interested in research, social impact, and event management. The internship involves on-site preparation and delivery, communications support, and thematic research.
Scope and Key Responsibilities
Event Preparation (May – June 2026)
Assist in preparing participant lists, invitations, and logistics trackers.
Support development of communication materials including short briefs, speaker bios, and social media content.
Help organize event materials such as agendas, name badges, and printed folders.
Coordinate regularly with the Europe-based intern to align on tasks and progress.
Event Delivery (End of June / Early July 2026)
Provide full on-site support during the event in Nairobi.
Manage registration desk and welcome participants.
Coordinate with vendors, AV, and catering as needed.
Assist with note-taking during sessions (lectures, panels, masterclasses).
Support documentation of the event through photos, short summaries, and quotes.
Communications & Documentation
Draft short daily summaries or highlights of discussions.
Assist with social media posts, newsletters, or event coverage.
Compile key insights from sessions in accessible, non-technical language.
Research & Learning Support
Conduct light background research on climate change, displacement, health, and migration themes.
Support the preparation of briefing notes or summaries for internal use.
Post-Event Tasks
Assist in organizing event outputs: notes, photos, and participant feedback.
Contribute to a short event report or blog-style summary.
Provide written reflections or lessons learned as part of the pilot evaluation.
Deliverables
Session notes and summaries.
Contributions to communication outputs (social media, short write-ups).
Support for final event documentation/report.
Written reflection on the internship experience.
Duration and Supervision
Preparation: May–June 2026 (Onsite from Kenya).
Event: Full-time in Nairobi.
Post-event wrap-up: 1–2 weeks after the event.
Supervision: The intern will be supervised by a Samuel Hall team member with exposure to AKU partners and event organizers.
Requirements
An ongoing undergraduate student (final year preferred), based in Nairobi, Kenya.
Strong interest in global issues, climate change, migration, or displacement.
Good writing and communication skills in English.
Comfortable working in a fast-paced, high-level event environment.
Organized, proactive, and eager to learn.
