Job Description
Mount Kenya University (MKU) is seeking a Tutorial Fellow specializing in Physical Education for the School of Education. This role involves academic instruction, curriculum development, and contributing to the university's research goals. The successful candidate will report to the Dean of the School of Education and will be responsible for teaching undergraduate, diploma, and certificate courses while pursuing their PhD.
Duties and Responsibilities
Curriculum Development: Participate in the development and review of academic curricula.
Instructional Preparation: Prepare course outlines to guide the effective delivery and coverage of the syllabus.
Content Development: Develop learning content to ensure adequate coverage of the course outline.
Teaching: Instruction of Undergraduate, Diploma, and Certificate courses.
Examination: Set, invigilate, and administer examinations to test the understanding of course content and provide progressive reports to the Department.
Project Supervision: Supervise students’ projects and attend defense meetings to enable students to complete their studies successfully.
Research and Publication: Carry out research, prepare publications, and participate in conferences to disseminate knowledge.
Grant Acquisition: Attract funding to the University to support research initiatives.
Field Supervision: Facilitate field studies and assess students during attachments, trips, and internships.
University Service: Participate in official University meetings and functions.
Attendance Monitoring: Monitor class attendance sheets to ensure students meet the required attendance (more than 80%) before sitting for examinations.
Administrative Support: Carry out administrative and other duties as may be assigned from time to time.
Qualifications and Requirements
Master’s Degree: Master’s Degree in Education with a specialization in Physical Education from a recognized academic institution.
Bachelor’s Degree: Bachelor of Education (Arts/Science) with Physical Education as one of the teaching subjects.
PhD Status: Must be registered for a PhD degree in the relevant discipline.
Experience: Minimum of two (2) years of teaching experience at the University Level.
Professional Registration: Registration by a relevant professional body.
