One Acre Fund is a nonprofit organization that supplies smallholder farmers in East Africa with asset-based financing and agriculture training services to reduce hunger and poverty. The Tupande Transport Allocation Coordinator role is integral to managing and optimizing the flow of goods within the organization's Tupande division. This position requires strong organizational skills, proficiency in transport logistics, and the ability to maintain compliance and accuracy across all transport documentation and allocation processes.
Responsibilities
Transport Planning & Allocation
- Match transport requirements (volumes, routes, schedules) to available trucks, drivers, or third-party transport providers.
- Allocate vehicles according to capacity, route optimization, and cost-effectiveness.
- Manage changes or disruptions to transport plans (delays, breakdowns, or urgent requests).
Scheduling & Coordination
- Prepare and share daily and/or weekly transport schedules with drivers and relevant stakeholders.
- Coordinate with warehouse teams to ensure readiness for loading and departure.
- Communicate with field staff and vendors on delivery schedules.
Documentation & Tracking
- Maintain accurate records of vehicle allocations, routes, loads, and trip completion.
- Track and monitor the status of allocated transport (in transit, delivered, returned).
- Ensure all required documentation (delivery notes, weighbridge slips, proof of delivery) is collected and filed.
Compliance & Safety
- Ensure allocated vehicles meet legal and company safety standards.
- Verify driver qualifications and compliance with hours-of-service regulations.
Reporting & Performance Monitoring
- Generate daily/weekly transport allocation and performance reports.
- Highlight underutilisation, delays, or cost overruns and propose improvements.
Qualifications
Specific qualifications required for this role include:
- A BA/BSc/HND qualification.
- Strong planning and organizational skills.
- Excellent communication and coordination abilities.
- Proficiency in Transport Management Systems and tracking tools.
- An analytical mindset geared towards cost reduction and performance tracking.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively under pressure.
