Theatre Nurse

This role requires a dedicated professional to manage the patient experience throughout the surgical process, covering the pre-operative, intra-operative, and post-operative phases. The primary objective is to ensure patient safety and achieve optimal outcomes in the operating theatre environment.

Key Duties

Pre-operative Responsibilities

• Prepare the operating theatre, instruments, and equipment according to the surgical list.
• Conduct thorough pre-operative patient assessments and ensure all documentation is complete.
• Confirm surgical consent, patient identity, and site marking.
• Uphold strict infection prevention and control standards.

Intra-operative Responsibilities

• Scrub, circulate, or assist depending on the surgical procedure requirements.
• Maintain a sterile field and anticipate the surgeon's needs throughout procedures.
• Perform instrument, sponge, and sharp counts accurately.
• Monitor patient vitals and respond promptly to changes during surgery.
• Operate theatre equipment safely and efficiently.

Post-operative Responsibilities

• Participate in immediate post-operative care and safe handover to the recovery unit.
• Document all nursing interventions, observations, and incidents accurately.
• Ensure proper cleaning, sterilization, and storage of theatre equipment and instruments.

Required Qualifications and Experience

• Diploma/Degree in Nursing.
• Higher Diploma in Perioperative/Theatre Nursing (Mandatory).
• Valid NCK (Nursing Council of Kenya) License.
• Minimum 2 years of theatre experience.
• Demonstrated strong skills in sterile technique, patient safety, and perioperative care.
