The University of Eldoret is seeking to recruit Technologists in the department of Computer Science. The role is focused on the technical management of computer science laboratories within the university. The Technologist ensures that all hardware, software, and instructional materials are ready for student use, maintains safety standards, and handles the procurement and inventory of technical assets.
Responsibilities and Duties
Instructional Facilitation: Collect and prepare teaching and research materials to facilitate students' practical sessions.
Procurement Management: Initiate procurement processes for laboratory/workshop tools, materials, machines, and equipment. Participate in developing annual procurement plans for the department to ensure supplies are available for teaching.
Laboratory Design & Activity: Design laboratory/workshop arrangements and assist in carrying out various laboratory/workshop field activities.
Safety Compliance: Ensure students follow laboratory/workshop safety procedures to minimize accidents and breakages.
Maintenance: Perform regular maintenance and repair of laboratory facilities and equipment to ensure they are in good condition for use.
Manual Development: Participate in the development of laboratory manuals in collaboration with lecturers to guide students in practical work.
Staff Supervision: Assign duties to laboratory/workshop assistants and attendants to maintain a clean and safe work environment.
Inventory Control: Keep, manage, and be responsible for laboratory/workshop inventory.
Qualifications and Experience
Education: Diploma in Computer Science or a relevant field from a recognized institution.
Experience: At least five (5) years of relevant work experience.
Technical Skills: Proficiency in computer applications.
Training: Continuous management training lasting not less than four (4) weeks from a recognized institution.
Certifications: First Aid and Occupational Health and Safety training.
Professional Membership: Membership registration with a relevant professional body.
