The Senior Transactional Banking Manager for Business Banking is a leadership role focused on driving Transactional Banking (TB) revenues from clients within the commercial banking segment. This role involves developing and executing strategic sales plans to deliver revenue ambitions through both existing portfolios and target client lists. The successful candidate will leverage the bank's network and product capabilities to increase client penetration, replicate successful TB solutions, and lead a high-performing team to achieve both quantitative and qualitative objectives.
Key Responsibilities
Sales and Revenue Generation (50%)
- Accountable for the delivery of TB revenues from Business Banking clients in the commercial banking segment.
- Develop and execute the sales strategy to deliver the revenue ambition through a portfolio of existing and target lists in Commercial.
- Increase client penetration and revenues by actively promoting the bank’s network and product capabilities (cross-selling).
- Replicate TB solutions and successes within the portfolio.
- Lead the team to achieve quantitative and qualitative performance objectives.
- Leverage sales tools and techniques for account planning and pipeline management to achieve sales/revenue targets.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of bank product capabilities and application to client needs for structured solutions.
- Ensure smooth communication with Customer Support, product development, and customer services teams.
- Drive alignment with key stakeholders including TB teams across geographies and operations.
- Lead client insight events and industry forums to showcase Absa’s leadership in Transaction Banking.
Service and Operational Rigor (30%)
- Work with the Commercial service team to ensure delivery of world-class customer service adhering to Absa standards.
- Lead the team in assisting Commercial coverage teams to develop relationship account plans.
- Achieve operational rigor excellence in all procedures to ensure 100% compliance.
- Minimize fraudulent application potential by strictly following product criteria.
- Ensure pricing is authorized as per mandate (Business Banking and Transactional Banking Directors) and properly set up for collection.
- Follow the TB end-to-end product set-up process.
- Ensure compliance with operations risk and rigor requirements including Health & Safety standards.
Team Support and Management (20%)
- Set and review SMART individual objectives aligned with overall team goals.
- Drive team performance against objectives on a regular basis.
- Identify training needs and recommend development plans for Customer Service Associates (CSAs).
Requirements and Qualifications
- Academic Qualification: Bachelor’s degree in Business, Commerce, Management Studies, or equivalent. A Post-graduate qualification or equivalent is also required.
- Experience: Over 5 years of experience in Commercial or Business Banking.
- Functional Experience: Proven frontline Transactional sales experience.
- Technical Knowledge: Solid knowledge of Working Capital, Trade Finance (LCs, bonds, guarantees), Supply Chain Financing, and Cash Management (Regional/Local payments, liquidity management, etc.).
- Leadership: Strong people and sales management skills.
- Risk Management: Proven treasury, credit, and country risk exposure.
- Analytical Skills: Skills for analyzing and formatting data provided by Finance and other sources.
