The role of Senior Research Administrator - CPHR at the Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI) involves providing high-level administrative, financial, and logistical support for research projects, ensuring efficient implementation, compliance, and accountability across all project phases. The role is critical in managing project resources and coordinating stakeholders to achieve research objectives.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare, review, and monitor project budgets, forecasts, and financial reports.
- Manage project payroll in consultation with the finance and HR department.
- Preparation of project Performance Contract reports.
- Review and submission of effort reports for assigned project personnel.
- Be knowledgeable on risk identification and management in project implementation.
- Managing project logistics and travel.
- Maintaining a program database and close-out reports for projects for reference.
- Review of project work plan for appropriateness and completeness while tracking performance periodically.
- Organizing and coordinating meetings, seminars, trainings, disseminations forums with stakeholders.
- Provide administration support for the initiation, implementation and study closure.
- Liaise with Administration, HR, Procurement, Finance and regulations office and principal investigators.
- Represent the project in community forums, stakeholder meetings, and external engagements.
- Maintain organized records of all project-related documents for accountability.
- Ensure smooth flow of information between the field and the project office.
Vacancy Requirements and Qualifications
Mandatory Requirements:
- At least four (4) years relevant working experience.
- Knowledge of guidelines/procedures on the management of projects.
- Bachelor’s Degree in any of the following disciplines: Finance, Project Management, Project Administration, Research Administration, or Public Administration.
- Master’s Degree in any of the following disciplines: Finance, Project Management, Project Administration, Research administration or Project planning.
- Certificate in Project Planning and Management.
- Supervisory Course lasting not less two (2) weeks from a recognized institution.
- Proficiency in computer applications.
- Demonstrated work performance and results.
- Have a CPA -K.
- Be a member of ICPAK and in good standing.
Skills and Competencies:
- Organizational and Time Management: Ability to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines, and prioritize tasks.
- Communication and Reporting Skills: Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal skills are essential.
- Financial and Technical Skills: Strong accounting skills with proficiency in software like Microsoft Office and Excel.
- Regulatory and Ethical Knowledge: Understanding of research regulations, compliance requirements, and ethical guidelines.
- Analytical and problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
