Job Description
The Senior Legal Assistant plays a vital role in supporting the legal team by managing evidence, preparing exhibits, and coordinating witness schedules in the event of litigation. This position ensures the smooth organization of cases and effective communication with all parties involved. The Senior Legal Assistant reports to the Legal Officer.
Responsibilities
Organize and schedule departmental meetings to ensure all important agenda are allocated and discussed as appropriate.
Take minutes in meetings to ensure all points are captured and recorded accurately.
Keep cases organized by proper arrangement of files and monitor calendars to mitigate any chances of loss or time wasted from poor plans.
Develop cases and maintain contacts with the involved clients and confirm all cases status with the legal officer.
Enhance trial proceedings by organization of evidences, preparation of exhibits and schedule witnesses.
Update job knowledge by participation in educational opportunities and study for professional qualifications.
Assist in drafting and reviewing contracts, MoUs, and lease agreements under the supervision of the Legal Officer.
Review tender documents for basic compliance with procurement laws.
Draft initial pleadings or responses for the Legal Officer's approval.
Provide preliminary legal input, while the Legal Officer gives final guidance.
Conduct initial reviews of university policies, rules, and regulations.
Assist in organizing training sessions for staff and student leaders.
Maintain and update the conflict of interest register and gift register.
Any other duty as assigned from time to time.
Requirements
Bachelors of Law (LLB) from a recognized institution.
Advocate of the High Court of Kenya.
Three (3) years' experience as a Legal Assistant Grade 9 or its equivalent.
Be a registered member of Law Society of Kenya and in good standing.
Proficiency in relevant computer applications.
