Greenpeace Africa is looking for a Responsive Campaigns Intern to join their team in Nairobi. The role involves supporting the development and execution of campaign strategies and policies that reflect respect for democratic principles and promote global social equity. The intern will work with various departments to drive impactful environmental and social justice change across the continent.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
Strategic Planning
- Support the coordination of logistical and administrative arrangements for responsive campaign activities.
- Assist in representing Greenpeace Africa at meetings and stakeholder engagements by preparing notes, taking minutes, and supporting follow-up actions.
- Support the preparation of briefings, summaries, and updates to inform staff, media, and stakeholders about campaign issues, progress, and outcomes.
- Contribute to project monitoring and evaluation processes by compiling information and supporting the preparation of reports for relevant managers and campaign teams.
- Collaborate with the Digital & Engagement, Research, Political, Communications, and Fundraising teams to ensure the successful output of Response projects.
- Support compliance with Greenpeace Africa security guidelines by following established procedures and promptly reporting any concerns in line with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
Networking and Responsiveness
- Support the adoption of a Pan-African perspective in project delivery by assisting in identifying and documenting responsive opportunities that contribute to campaign and project objectives across the continent.
- Assist the project team in enhancing responsiveness and agility by tracking emerging issues and supporting timely coordination of activities.
- Contribute to identifying responsive opportunities aligned with campaign goals and provide research and administrative support to help drive impact.
- Support the development and maintenance of relationships with external stakeholders, including civil society, communities, and relevant authorities, through coordination, communication, and follow-up.
- Contribute to building and sustaining relationships with key strategic stakeholders by helping to organize meetings, maintain contact databases, and prepare correspondence.
- Support budget planning processes by compiling relevant information and assisting in tracking project-related expenses.
- Assist in monitoring campaign budgets by maintaining records and supporting reporting to ensure effective and timely utilization of funds.
Administrative Support Competencies
- Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to support scheduling, coordinate meetings, and manage multiple administrative tasks efficiently.
- Attention to detail and accuracy in preparing documents, maintaining records, and supporting reporting processes.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills to assist with correspondence, drafting minutes, and engaging professionally with internal and external stakeholders.
- Proficiency in basic office and digital tools (e.g., Microsoft Office or Google Workspace), with the ability to manage data, track information, and provide general administrative support.
Qualifications and Experience
- Honours or Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences, International Relations, Law, or a related field.
- 6 months to 1 year of experience in advocacy, awareness-raising, Policy, and campaign management and coordination.
- Experience working in a multicultural team.
- A strong Pan-African Mindset.
- Familiarity with administrative support work within a role or organization.
- Skilled in negotiating, building consensus, bringing together diverse stakeholders, and facilitating dialogue to achieve mutual outcomes.
- Demonstrated strong communication skills.
- Knowledge and/or experience in supporting campaigning, creative advocacy content, execution of strategies, lobbying, and canvassing projects.
