Research Officer I

The Busia County Assembly Service Board is seeking a highly competent individual for the position of Research Officer I (Advert No: BSA/CASB/15/2025/2026). This role is established pursuant to Section 12 of the County Government Act 2012, which mandates the County Assembly Service Board to provide services and facilities for the efficient and effective functioning of the County Assembly.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Providing non-partisan professional research assistance and analysis to Members, Committees and staff of the County Assembly;
• Initiating and conducting anticipatory research and analysis on key policy issues;
• Providing expert interpretation, explanation and analysis, including assessing the strength and weaknesses of policy options;
• Maintaining a periodically updated inventory of publications on current issues, legislation and major public policy issues/questions;
• Ensuring quality control in the preparation of research papers, briefing notes and particular points of view; and
• Providing back up to County Assembly committees.

Job Requirements

• Bachelors degree in Statistics, Economics, Social Sciences, political science, commerce or equivalent from a recognized institution.
• Work experience in the relevant field.
• Proficiency in computer application.
• Certificate in Strategic Leadership Course from a recognized institution lasting not less than four weeks (will be an added advantage).

Remuneration

The remuneration is pegged at maximum Basic pay of Job Group "K" - Kshs. 52,960.

Terms of Service

This is a One (1) year contract, renewable subject to performance.
