This is the entry grade for the Research Officer cadre within the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP). An officer at this level may be deployed to work at any of the Departments at the Headquarters, Regional, or County Offices under the guidance of a senior and experienced officer. The primary purpose of this role is to provide research support to enhance public prosecution practices through legal analysis and empirical data.
Responsibilities and Duties
Case and Legislative Analysis: Analyzing court cases and legislation that have been declared unconstitutional and making formal proposals for review.
Intensive Research: Conducting intensive research, including academic literature reviews and empirical research, to support the office's mandate.
Legal Documentation: Preparing law digests to ensure easy accessibility and reference to the laws.
Interdisciplinary Support: Implementing multidisciplinary research approaches to inform and improve public prosecution practices.
Policy and Planning: Preparing and presenting concept papers and proposals from prioritized activities.
Compendium Management: Collecting and collating relevant authorities touching on criminal law and maintaining a comprehensive compendium of the same.
Requirements for Appointment
Education: A Bachelor's Degree in any of the following disciplines: Law, Science, Sociology, Criminology, Psychology, or any other relevant qualifications from a recognized institution.
Professionalism: Membership in a relevant professional body as per the specific discipline.
Technical Proficiency: A certificate of competence from a recognized institution in:
Ethics: Must meet the requirements of Chapter Six (6) of the Constitution of Kenya 2010.
