Job Description
This Associate Advocate position is focused on the Real Estate, Banking, and Finance sectors. The role involves managing complex residential and commercial transactions, including the drafting and review of sale agreements, leases, and transfers. The successful candidate will also handle the perfection of securities and ensure strict compliance with financial regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Manage residential and commercial real estate transactions, including drafting and reviewing sale agreements, leases, and transfers.
Conduct comprehensive land-related due diligence and handle matters involving the Sectional Properties Act.
Execute the perfection of securities, such as Charges, Mortgages, and Debentures, ensuring compliance with various financial institution regulations.
Draft and negotiate transactional documents, including facility agreements, joint venture agreements, and legal opinions.
Act as the primary point of contact for clients, financial lenders, and estate agents, providing regular updates and professional advice.
Oversee the filing and registration process at various government registries (Lands, Companies, etc.) with support from the clerical team.
Perform meticulous legal research and document proofing.
Demonstrate commercial awareness and high ethical standards in all decision-making processes.
Qualifications and Experience
An LL.B Degree with at least Second-Class Upper Division from a recognized university.
Admission to the Bar as an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya with a valid, current Practicing Certificate.
Three (3) to four (4) years of relevant post-admission experience in a reputable law firm.
Handled residential and commercial transactions related to real estate including drafting and reviewing sale agreements, leases, and transfers.
Familiarity with the Sectional Properties Act and land-related due diligence is essential.
Experienced in the perfection of securities (Charges, Mortgages, Debentures etc).
Highly proficient in drafting and negotiating transactional documents such as facility agreements, joint venture agreements, and legal opinions.
Excellent verbal and written skills; ability to simplify complex legal concepts for clients.
Proven ability to work well with supervisors and support staff.
