The Relationship Manager for Water, Sanitation & Hygiene (WASH) is responsible for establishing and maintaining a portfolio of WASH clients within the sector ecosystem. This role involves onboarding relationships that drive growth in revenues, assets, liabilities, and customer numbers, specifically targeting value propositions that improve water and sanitation services within communities across the National Bank of Kenya's (NBK) area of operation.
Key Responsibilities
- Portfolio Growth: Drive the growth of the existing WASH client portfolio in both assets and liabilities.
- Product Development: Increase product uptake for new and existing relationships and lead the development or improvement of sector-specific products.
- Revenue Generation: Grow revenue from joint programs such as revenue sharing on collections, lending, and smart metering initiatives.
- Ecosystem Onboarding: Target the onboarding of new Public and Private Water Service Providers (WSPs) to capture a significant share of the water ecosystem.
- Partnership Management: Liaise with development partners and donors (e.g., Water.org, Aqua for All, KPWF) to support financing programs through debt, guarantees, and technical assistance.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Manage relationships with key stakeholders such as WASPA, Water Service Trust Fund (WSTF), and smart metering companies.
- Credit Management: Structure financing proposals, analyze financial statements, and negotiate terms and conditions for facilities through the credit approval process.
- Capacity Building: Train bank staff in branches on the WASH sector and represent the bank at conferences and industry forums.
- Risk and Compliance: Ensure full compliance with established policies, CBK regulatory requirements, KYC, and AML policies to mitigate business segment risks.
- Reporting: Prepare monthly and quarterly reports for partners and maintain administrative tasks including work plans and budgetary control.
Qualifications and Experience
- Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Project Management, or a related field. A Master’s Degree in a relevant field is an added advantage.
- Experience:
- Minimum of 8 years in banking with significant expertise in credit analysis.
- At least 2 years of experience working closely with development partners, donors, or NGOs.
- At least 2 years of experience in the WASH environment (financing, advocacy, or civil society).
- Skills: Strong leadership, interpersonal, and team-playing abilities; excellent written and verbal communication; sound decision-making; and commercial acumen.
- Knowledge: Understanding of WASH regulatory and compliance requirements.
