Job Description
Absa Bank Limited is seeking a Senior Transactional Banking Manager for its Business Banking division. This role is responsible for driving Transactional Banking (TB) revenues from clients in the commercial banking segment, developing sales strategies, and maintaining excellence in service and operational rigor.
Key Responsibilities
Sales (50%)
Revenue Delivery: Accountable for the delivery of TB revenues from Business Banking clients in the commercial banking segment.
Strategy Execution: Develop and execute the sales strategy to deliver the revenue ambition through a portfolio of existing and target lists in Commercial.
Client Penetration: Increase client penetration and revenues for the bank by actively promoting the bank’s network and product capabilities (cross selling). Replicate TB solutions and successes within the portfolio.
Performance Management: Lead the team to achieve quantitative and qualitative performance objectives. Leverage existing sales tools and techniques to identify opportunities for new/incremental business, including account planning and pipeline management.
Product Knowledge: Maintain detailed and up-to-date knowledge of the bank’s comprehensive product capabilities and their application to clients’ needs for structuring solutions.
Stakeholder Alignment: Ensure smooth interaction with the Customer Support team, product development, and customer services teams. Drive alignment with TB teams across multiple geographies and operations.
Brand Awareness: Lead client insight events and industry forums to showcase leadership in Transaction Banking.
Values: Maintain high performance standards and role model behaviors that demonstrate bank values.
Service and Operational Rigor (30%)
Service Standards: Work with the Commercial service team to ensure delivery of world-class customer service and adherence to Absa Service standards.
Relationship Planning: Assist Commercial coverage teams in developing relationship account plans for their customer portfolios.
Compliance: Achieve operational excellence and 100% compliance in all procedures and processes.
Risk Management: Minimize potential fraudulent applications by following product criteria and ensure compliance with Health & Safety standards and security of premises.
Pricing: Ensure pricing is authorized by mandate, agreed with the customer, and properly set up for 100% collection.
Team Support and Management (20%)
Objective Setting: Set SMART individual objectives aligned with team goals and review performance regularly.
Development: Identify training needs and recommend training plans for Customer Service Assistants (CSAs).
Requirements and Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Business, Commerce, Management Studies, or equivalent academic qualifications. A Post-graduate qualification is an added advantage.
Experience: Over 5 years’ experience in Commercial/Business Banking with specific frontline Transactional sales experience.
Sales Expertise: Strong people and sales management skills with a proven track record in Working Capital, Trade Finance (LCs, bonds & guarantees), Supply Chain Financing, and Cash Management.
Technical Knowledge: Understanding of Regional/Local payments, liquidity management structures, and system infrastructure.
Risk Awareness: Proven exposure to treasury, credit, and country risk.
