Absa Bank Limited is seeking a Relationship Manager for the SME sector within the Nairobi Region. The primary purpose of this role is to manage and grow a portfolio of Small and Medium Enterprise (SME) customers by providing expert financial consulting, driving sales of banking products, and ensuring strict adherence to risk and compliance standards. The role involves a significant focus on sales and service, alongside business management and team support.
Key Responsibilities
Sales and Service (70%)
Portfolio Review: Conduct annual and interim reviews of customers' borrowing facilities, adjusting based on changes in risk profiles.
Consultation: Provide expert advice to business owners and managers on financial issues, credit matters, and general business practices.
Communication: Effectively communicate service standards, pricing, and product changes to clients.
Complaint Resolution: Manage and resolve customer complaints promptly and efficiently.
Proactive Sales: Identify and sell the most effective products to meet customer needs, both reactively and proactively.
Marketing & Development: Plan and coordinate marketing strategies for new business and deepen existing relationships across the Absa Group.
Risk Standards: Monitor and ensure consistent adherence to risk service standards.
Business Management (25%)
New Business Acquisition: Research and follow up on targets for potential new SME business.
Customer Prioritization: Identify and prioritize high-value customers based on their present and potential contribution.
Credit Assessment: Gather and input key judgmental information required for credit applications, working closely with the SME Credit team.
Portfolio Quality: Control portfolio quality using bank policy triggers and "Condition of Sanction" guidelines.
Risk Mitigation: Manage "Early Warning List" customers to minimize potential losses according to regional guidance.
Staff Management & Support (5%)
Support: Provide day-to-day guidance to Enterprise Bankers and branch staff to maintain service quality.
Administrative: Manage personal leave plans and offer general business support as requested.
Risk & Control
Ensure all duties are performed in full compliance with regulatory requirements, the Enterprise-Wide Risk Management Framework, and internal Absa Bank Kenya Plc policies.
Requirements and Qualifications
Education: A University Degree in a Business-related field.
Experience: A minimum of 3 years of experience in a business-related field, preferably within banking or financial services.
Knowledge: Strong understanding of SME banking, credit analysis, and risk management.
