Job Description
The Pharmacy and Poisons Board is the Drug Regulatory Authority established under the Pharmacy and Poisons Act, Chapter 244 of the Laws of Kenya. The Board regulates the Practice of Pharmacy and the Manufacture and Trade in drugs and poisons, aiming to implement appropriate regulatory measures to achieve the highest standards of safety, efficacy, and quality for medical products.
Duties and Responsibilities
Data Analysis & Policy Review: Collating and analysing statistical data to assist in the review of guidelines, standards, infrastructure, tools, and procedures for the control of clinical trials, medicines information, and monitoring of medical products and health technologies in the market after registration.
Regulatory Compliance: Initiating the process of registration and monitoring of clinical trials; initiating the assessment of application dossiers for compliance; and initiating assessment of safety reports for causality.
Laboratory Quality Control: Preparing analytical reports on calibration and validation of laboratory instruments, standardization of chemical reagents, and validation of testing methods.
Sampling & Testing: Scrutinizing and processing samples and tests on medical products and health technologies; verifying samples, specifications, and test materials.
Market Surveillance: Preparing reports on market complaints relating to the quality of medical products and health technologies.
Documentation: Maintaining statistical data on certificates of analysis issued to clients.
Training & Research: Participating in the development of induction modules in the area of specialization and verifying analytical data on emerging trends in regard to quality control.
Requirements for Appointment
Candidates must meet either of the following criteria:
Option 1:
Bachelor’s degree in any of the following disciplines: Pharmacy (B. Pharm), Microbiology, Analytical Chemistry, Medical Laboratory Technology or any other equivalent from a recognized Institution.
Proficiency in computer applications.
Fulfillment of the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution of Kenya.
Option 2:
Diploma in Pharmacy from a recognized institution.
A minimum of eight (8) years relevant work experience.
Proficiency in computer applications.
Fulfillment of the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution of Kenya.
