Umba combines advanced tools and techniques to optimize risk exposures in emerging markets that are currently underserved by traditional banking services. The Regulatory & Government Relations Advisor will be responsible for managing Umba's relationship with the Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) and ensuring compliance with the local regulatory framework.
Key Responsibilities
Engagement with CBK: Lead day-to-day engagement with CBK on licensing, compliance, and strategic regulatory matters.
Regulatory Advisory: Advise on Kenya's banking regulatory framework, including license categories and upgrade pathways.
Representation: Attend in-person meetings at CBK and coordinate with Umba's legal advisors.
Strategy Development: Develop and execute regulatory strategy aligned with Umba's growth objectives.
Reporting: Provide regular briefings on regulatory progress, risks, and stakeholder dynamics.
Stakeholder Management: Navigate informal dynamics and relationships within CBK and the broader regulatory ecosystem.
Filings: Prepare regulatory filings, applications, and formal correspondence as needed.
Coordination: Support coordination between Umba, external partners, and CBK.
Requirements
Experience: 10+ years in Kenyan financial services regulation, banking compliance, or government relations.
Knowledge: Deep understanding of CBK's licensing framework and regulatory processes.
Location: Based in Nairobi with availability for in-person meetings at short notice.
Communication: Strong written communication skills for regular remote briefings to the CEO.
