The Senior Associate role within the Performance & Restructuring team is a pivotal position focused on advising clients navigating high-pressure and high-impact situations. The successful candidate will support and lead workstreams across critical areas including restructuring, turnaround management, insolvency, and performance improvement engagements. This role demands strong analytical capabilities, sharp commercial acumen, exceptional communication skills, and the ability to effectively manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines. You will be expected to collaborate closely with senior stakeholders, develop practical, executable solutions, and contribute directly to achieving client stability and long-term value creation.
Key Responsibilities
Client Advisory & Analysis
- Conduct diagnostic assessments of businesses experiencing underperformance or distress.
- Identify and analyze the root causes of financial and operational challenges.
- Prepare detailed independent business reviews (IBRs), develop turnaround strategies, and formulate comprehensive restructuring plans.
- Execute detailed business performance evaluations and in-depth scenario analyses.
Financial & Operational Restructuring
- Develop and review sophisticated financial models for purposes including cash flow forecasting, scenario planning, and restructuring implementation.
- Provide crucial support for debt advisory services and refinancing strategies.
- Offer expert advice on capital structure optimization and lead or support stakeholder negotiations.
- Deliver operational restructuring projects, encompassing initiatives such as cost optimization, process improvement, and working capital management.
Insolvency & Distressed Solutions
- Assist in formal insolvency processes, including administration, liquidation, and receivership.
- Support contingency planning and thorough options analysis for distressed businesses.
- Ensure strict compliance with Kenyan insolvency regulations and internal PwC methodologies.
Project Management & Delivery
- Lead assigned workstreams, ensuring the timely delivery of high-quality outputs and deliverables.
- Coordinate effectively with cross-functional internal teams across Deals, Assurance, Tax, and Consulting service lines.
- Prepare professional, high-quality reports, presentations, and client recommendations.
Team Leadership & Development
- Act as a mentor and provide support for junior team members.
- Contribute actively to knowledge sharing initiatives and capability development within the practice.
- Promote collaboration and consistently uphold PwC values.
Business Development
- Support the preparation of high-quality proposals and pursuit materials for potential engagements.
- Proactively identify opportunities for providing additional services during existing client engagements.
- Build and maintain strong, effective client relationships.
Qualifications and Experience
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field.
- Professional accounting qualification is required (CPA, ACCA, ACA, ICAEW or equivalent).
Minimum years of experience required
- 3–5 years’ professional experience in restructuring, insolvency, turnaround advisory, corporate finance, or performance improvement.
- Experience gained in a professional services environment or financial institution is considered an added advantage.
