The National Program Coordinator will manage and coordinate the implementation of two major projects: Tanzania Dairy Genetic Gains (TDGG) and Global Methane Gains (GMG) in Kenya. These programs, led by the International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI), focus on developing and scaling a multi-country dairy genetic gains platform. The coordinator will represent the Program’s Principal Investigator (PI) at national fora and manage a data and analytics platform designed to improve herd productivity and dairy value chain services.
Key Responsibilities
Manage the day-to-day operations of dairy genetics gains activities in Kenya.
Coordinate national dairy cattle identification, performance recording, and genetic evaluation initiatives.
Provide training, mentorship, and support to Program Site Coordinators.
Collaborate with public and private stakeholders, including State and County Directorates, to support breeding services and Artificial Insemination.
Ensure effective communication between country partner teams and the ILRI project team to meet deliverable timelines.
Oversee project schedules and ensure technical and financial reports are prepared accurately and on time.
Maintain records on project outcomes, meeting decisions, and recommendations.
Facilitate the dissemination of knowledge, tools, and methodologies to stakeholders.
Identify synergistic activities and communicate them to the Program Management Team.
Requirements
Education: PhD or MSc in an Agricultural field (Animal Breeding or Animal Production) with a Bachelor’s degree in Animal Production or Veterinary Medicine.
Experience: At least a PhD with 3 years of relevant experience or a Master’s degree with 10 years of experience.
Expertise: Practical experience in managing commercial livestock businesses, specifically dairy businesses and livestock seed systems in Kenya or Eastern Africa.
Management Skills: Proven ability to manage results-based budgets, work plans, and monitoring systems.
Soft Skills: Excellent interpersonal and English communication skills, adaptability, and the ability to work in multi-cultural environments.
Travel: Willingness to travel frequently to project field sites.
