A boutique law firm based in Mombasa with a presence in litigation in the industry is seeking a motivated and experienced associate to join their firm in Nairobi. The successful candidate will handle high-value litigation cases, represent clients in various legal proceedings, and provide comprehensive legal advice.
Core Duties and Responsibilities
Legal Documentation: Preparing and filing legal pleadings and documents with the appropriate court or tribunal.
Client Communication: Regularly updating clients on the status of their cases in a simple manner by breaking down legal terminologies.
Collaboration: Collaborating with advocates and colleagues in various high-value litigation cases to achieve success.
Research: Conducting research on relevant laws, regulations, precedents, and case law to build on each case assigned to you.
Settlements: Engaging in, drafting, and reviewing settlement agreements to ensure that the client’s interests are protected through a favorable resolution.
Representation: Representing clients in legal matters such as hearings, motions, and trial proceedings.
Consultation: Meeting with clients to understand their legal issues, needs, and objectives, and providing advice accordingly.
Advisory: Providing legal and technical advice, including drafting legal opinions.
Due Diligence: Undertaking due diligence on litigation matters.
Document Review: Drafting and reviewing various legal documents.
Time Management: Managing deadlines and court schedules effectively, ensuring timely filings and appearances.
Litigation Tactics: Conducting cross-examination.
Negotiation: Corresponding and negotiating with opposing counsel to resolve disputes favorably.
Financials: Ensuring that invoicing, collection of payable fees, and timely payments are made.
Relationship Management: Building and maintaining positive relationships with clients and potential clients.
Departmental Growth: Participating and contributing to the growth of litigation department goals and objectives.
General Duties: Any other duties as assigned.
Job Specifications and Qualifications
One (1) year post-admission experience in a busy law firm.
An upper 2nd Class Bachelors of Laws (LLB) degree from a recognized university.
A valid practicing certificate.
