The Nakuru County Government is recruiting two Legal Officers I to join the Office of the County Attorney. This role is pivotal in providing professional legal counsel, representing the County Executive in litigation, and ensuring all legal instruments, such as contracts and leases, are soundly drafted and reviewed to support the county's operations.
Key Responsibilities
Litigation Representation: Representing the County Executive in court and other legal proceedings to protect county interests.
Legal Drafting: Preparing and reviewing diverse legal documents, including legal opinions, briefs, leases, contracts, and Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs).
Legal Research: Conducting thorough research on pending case files and emerging legal trends to provide opinions that facilitate justice and administrative processes.
Dispute Resolution: Recommending and implementing alternative dispute resolution (ADR) mechanisms where appropriate.
Supervision: Overseeing the work of junior legal counsel and subordinate staff within the Office of the County Attorney.
Data Management: Collecting and collating research data to support legal strategy and policy development.
General Counsel: Executing any other duties assigned by the County Attorney to ensure the legal department functions effectively.
Requirements and Qualifications
Education: Possession of a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) degree from a recognized university.
Professional Credentials: Must be an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya with a valid Practicing License.
Experience: Minimum of three (3) years of post-admission legal experience.
Professional Membership: Current member of the Law Society of Kenya (LSK) in good standing.
Knowledge: Demonstrated understanding of County Government operations and applicable local and national laws.
