Job Description
The Legal Intern - Access to Information role at The Commission on Administrative Justice (Office of The Ombudsman) involves providing essential support in the oversight and enforcement of the Access to Information (ATI) Act. The Commission on Administrative Justice (CAJ) is a Constitutional Commission established under Article 59 (4) and Chapter Fifteen of the Constitution, and the Commission on Administrative Justice Act, 2011. The intern will assist the Commission in handling applications, conducting inquiries, and developing regulatory frameworks to ensure transparency and accountability in public and private bodies.
Duties and Responsibilities
Assist in receiving and reviewing applications on Access to Information.
Assist in conducting inquiries into alleged violations of the ATI Act.
Providing support during ATI hearings.
Assist in undertaking onsite inspections and relevant information inventories.
Assist in preparing summons, orders and other legal instruments under the ATI Act.
Assist in undertaking relevant research aimed at developing a repository on ATI determinations, advisories, and case law.
Participating in the development of the regulatory framework on the ATI Act including relevant regulations, policies, guidelines, rules, and model laws.
Assist in providing technical support to public entities and private bodies on implementation of the ATI Act through awareness, sensitization, training, and guidance.
Assist in receiving and assessing public entities’ reports on ATI implementation.
Participating in the preparation of relevant guidance on ATI including advisories.
Any other duty assigned by the Commission from time to time.
Job Specification
For appointment to this position, a candidate must have:
A Bachelor’s degree in Law from a recognized institution.
