This is a university teaching and research position at Pwani University. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching, conducting research, and supervising students and staff in the fields of Marine Biology and Fisheries. Appointment is offered on either Permanent and Pensionable terms or on a three-year renewable performance-based contract, depending on age, citizenship, and other factors.
Key Responsibilities
Teaching and Research: Conduct lectures, research, and supervise undergraduate and postgraduate students as well as departmental staff.
Curriculum Development: Design and develop academic programs and curricula in line with institutional standards.
Institutional Service: Contribute to the University or Research Institution through participation in departmental management, school or university meetings, and committee memberships.
Advising: Provide academic and research advising to students.
Community Engagement: Demonstrate involvement in the community, such as serving as a member of a Board of Governors (BOG) or School Management Committee (SMC).
Requirements
Academic Qualifications
An earned PhD in Fisheries, Marine Ecology, Hydrobiology, Coastal and Marine Resource Management, or other Marine Science-related fields (or its equivalent) from an accredited and recognized University.
Experience and Professional Affiliations
Active membership in relevant professional bodies.
Evidence of contribution to a University or Research Institution (e.g., departmental management, student advising, committee participation).
Demonstrated track record of community involvement.
Technical and Soft Skills
Demonstrated ability to teach, conduct high-level research, and supervise students.
Skills in designing and developing academic programs and curricula.
