Role Overview
The Lead Solution Architect at Absa Bank Limited is responsible for driving the design and delivery of complex, fit-for-purpose technology solution blueprints that align with business strategy. This role involves creating high-impact, cross-domain technology solutions and building architectural capability within development teams across the organization. The architect ensures that solutions are relevant, scalable, testable, and reusable while navigating complex stakeholder landscapes.
Key Responsibilities
Architecture and Strategy
- Leverage deep understanding of organization strategy to design and deliver scalable and reusable technology solutions.
- Collaborate with delivery teams to independently analyze customer requirements and frame complex business problems.
- Use emotional and business intelligence to reconcile divergent stakeholder perspectives within solution designs.
- Lead design thinking processes to deliver solution blueprints and associated roadmaps.
- Create end-to-end blueprints applicable from ideation through to product launch and commercialization.
- Contribute to the design and implementation of detailed feasibilities and business cases.
- Apply strong engineering background to choices in solution design, including domain-driven design, microservices, and loosely coupled integration.
- Identify best-fit tools and research alternatives to ensure optimal solution outcomes.
- Conduct solution reviews, code reviews, and testing as part of embedded delivery teams.
- Present designs and business cases to Group and Business architectural design forums for approval.
- Identify risks and challenges across the value chain, working with cross-functional stakeholders for resolution.
People and Capability Building
- Participate in peer reviews to transfer knowledge and evolve architectural practices.
- Set and cascade solution direction across technology delivery teams.
- Coach and mentor delivery teams to build their architectural capability.
- Support the attraction and recruitment of strong technology teams as a Subject Matter Expert (SME).
- Embed agile practices (sprint routines, regular feedback) to foster high-performance teams.
Financial, Risk and Governance
- Accountability for all risks associated with solution design from ideation to deployment.
- Apply organizational risk and governance frameworks consistently.
- Ensure alignment with Group guidelines and regulatory requirements.
- Collaborate with chapter and guild leads to apply an enterprise-wide lens to product development.
- Commit to delivering solutions on time and within budget.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology or a related field.
- Strong engineering background with knowledge of modern software design practices (Microservices, DDD).
- Proven experience in complex solution blueprinting and roadmap development.
- Expertise in analytical and creative problem solving.
- Deep understanding of agile methodologies.
- Excellent negotiation and stakeholder management skills.
