St. Joseph’s Technical Institute, Nyang’oma is a Public Institution originally started in 1965 to cater for deaf students finishing primary education. The Kenyan Sign Language Interpreter (Ref: SJTTID/BOG/2026/05) is responsible for bridging the communication gap between hearing individuals and persons with hearing impairments within the educational environment. The role involves facilitating clear and effective communication to ensure that students and staff can fully participate in all institutional activities.
Duties and Responsibilities
Interpretation Services: Provide accurate sign-to-voice and voice-to-sign interpretation during lectures, meetings, and other institutional activities.
Institutional Support: Actively participate in meetings and activities to facilitate communication.
Student and Trainer Assistance: Offer direct support to students and trainers to facilitate the learning and teaching process.
Device Management: Regularly monitor and assist with the use of assistive devices to enhance communication accessibility.
Professional Research: Conduct ongoing research on interpretation trends and sign language developments to maintain high standards of service.
Requirements and Qualifications
Must possess a BA/BSc/HND degree.
Must hold a Certificate in Kenyan Sign Language.
Must hold a Certificate in Computer Applications.
A minimum of 2 years of relevant experience is an added advantage.
