The Inventory and Stock Controller role is crucial for managing the flow of goods, implementing robust stock control systems, and optimizing the supply chain, particularly within high-volume environments like Distribution and FMCG (Fast Moving Consumer Goods) setups. This role requires strong organizational skills and attention to detail to ensure operational efficiency from purchasing through to final dispatch.
Responsibilities
Warehouse & Stock Management
- Implement and maintain effective stock control systems and procedures.
- Monitor inventory levels and reorder thresholds to ensure optimal stock availability.
- Conduct regular physical inventory counts and reconcile with system records.
- Manage stock rotation to prevent expiries and wastage.
- Maintain accurate stock valuation and update supplier pricing in the system.
Purchasing & Inventory Transactions
- Process purchase orders, requisitions, and invoices in a timely and accurate manner.
- Coordinate with suppliers to ensure on-time delivery of goods and services.
- Ensure accurate receiving, coding, and pricing of inventory items in the system.
- Track and manage stock levels to prevent stockouts and excess inventory.
Order Fulfillment & Dispatch
- Oversee picking, packing, and dispatching of customer sales orders.
- Verify accuracy of packed goods against delivery notes and ensure proper documentation.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and secure dispatch and warehouse area.
- Supervise safe loading of shipments to minimize breakages and delays.
Supplier Relationship Management
- Develop and maintain productive relationships with suppliers and vendors.
- Negotiate favorable pricing, payment terms, and service level agreements.
- Monitor supplier performance and resolve issues related to quality or delivery.
Supply Chain Optimization
- Identify cost-saving opportunities and supply chain process improvements.
- Collaborate with internal teams to improve forecasting, demand planning, and stock movement.
- Research and implement best practices and relevant technology solutions.
Qualifications and Experience
- Diploma or Degree in Procurement, Supply Chain or related field.
- 3–5 years of relevant experience in inventory or supply chain management, preferably in high-volume environments, especially Distribution and FMCG Setup.
- Ability to ensure stock adjustments and reconciliations are properly documented and approved.
- Knowledge of standard operating procedures (SOPs) for inventory handling.
- Familiarity with ERP systems and barcode-based inventory tracking is preferred.
- Exposure to FMCG distribution models, route sales, and returns management.
- High level of accuracy, integrity, and attention to detail.
- Proven ability to supervise warehouse staff and enforce discipline and procedures.
