Job Description
CrossBoundary is a mission-driven investment firm committed to unlocking the power of capital to make a strong return while creating a lasting difference in frontier markets. The Minigrid Innovations Lab is currently seeking an intern to support its data-driven initiatives. This role is ideal for a self-starter passionate about energy access and climate solutions who enjoys working with complex, real-world datasets to derive actionable insights.
Responsibilities
Clean, structure, and analyze large datasets, including smart meter data, site-level operational data, and revenue data exports.
Develop Python scripts to automate recurring data cleaning and aggregation workflows.
Conduct time-series analysis to assess site performance, including consumption growth, uptime, load profiles, and revenue trends.
Support cross-site performance comparisons and prototype impact assessments.
Identify anomalies, trends, and patterns in operational data.
Develop visualizations and dashboards to communicate findings clearly.
Support the preparation of data-driven insights for donor reports, internal memos, and sector publications.
Contribute to strengthening the Lab’s internal data infrastructure and analytical tools.
Requirements and Skills
Education: BA/BSc/HND in a relevant field (Data Science, Computer Science, Engineering, Statistics, or related).
Technical Skills: Intermediate to Advanced Python programming skills.
Data Analysis: Strong experience with Pandas for data cleaning, merging, grouping, and aggregations; experience with NumPy for numerical computations.
Specific Experience: Proficiency in handling and analyzing large CSV datasets and conducting time-series data analysis (resampling, rolling averages, trend analysis).
Tools: Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (formulas, structured sheets) and basic data visualization skills (Matplotlib, Plotly, or similar).
Attributes: Highly analytical, detail-oriented, and comfortable working with messy, real-world datasets independently.
