The African Development Bank (AfDB) is inviting applications for its 2026 Internship Program (Session 2). The mission of the AfDB is to be at the center of Africa’s transformation, promoting inclusive growth and the transition to green growth. The legal internship is designed to provide students with the opportunity to acquire professional and practical experience within the Bank’s legal departments, contributing to the Bank's mission while building a potential pool of candidates for future recruitment.
Objectives of the Internship Program
Provide students with an opportunity to acquire professional and practical experience at the African Development Bank.
Provide the Bank with a pool of potential candidates for future recruitment purposes. (Note: Applicants should not expect the internship to lead to immediate employment with the Bank).
Responsibilities and Duties
While specific daily tasks depend on the hiring unit, interns in the Legal field generally assist with:
Supporting legal advisory functions and corporate governance matters.
Researching legal issues related to international development finance and administrative law.
Assisting in the preparation and review of legal documents and contracts.
Contributing to the documentation and organization of legal records.
Terms and Conditions
Duration: Between three (3) and six (6) months. The internship is authorized only once for any candidate.
Commencement: Session 2 starts in July 2026.
Work Mode: Internships may be performed remotely or on-site. Remote interns must have access to a personal computer and reliable internet.
Logistics: On-site interns are responsible for their air travel and upkeep. The Bank assists with entry and residence visas.
Benefits: Eligible interns receive medical insurance coverage paid by the Bank and a monthly stipend.
Eligibility Criteria
Age: Must have attained the age of majority in their country and be not more than 30 years old at the start of the internship.
Education: Currently enrolled in a Master's level degree program in a recognized higher learning institution. Candidates can also apply within one year of having obtained such a degree.
Nationality: Must be a national of a member country of the African Development Bank.
Languages: Must be fluent in at least one of the Bank’s working languages (English or French).
Technical Skills: Proficiency in standard software packages (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access); knowledge of SAP is desirable.
