Job Description
The Communication Assistant will provide essential support to the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) in the implementation of the PLEAD II project. The role involves a wide range of tasks including event coordination, content creation, digital media management, and media relations to enhance the visibility and impact of UNODC's initiatives in Kenya.
Responsibilities and Duties
Event Support: Support the implementation of public events, workshops, round tables, and forums.
Documentation and Content Creation: Photograph and coordinate photography for UNODC/PLEAD II events and field missions; develop web stories, press releases, and media advisories.
Activity Implementation: Assist in generating research studies and policy activities carried out by the project.
Campaign Planning: Support the development of campaign work plans, identifying strategies to reach target audiences through social media.
Social Media Management: Develop high-quality visual and written content for social media platforms; manage online accounts and respond to user queries.
Material Design: Design and produce communications materials including brochures, posters, and audiovisual content (photos/videos) based on project needs.
Monitoring and Analytics: Use specialized software to monitor and report on the effectiveness of social media coverage and engagement.
Digital Archiving: Maintain a comprehensive digital archive of all project photos, stories, and press coverage.
Online Updates: In liaison with the communications team, maintain up-to-date information on UNODC ROEA and HQ websites and prepare advocacy materials.
Media Relations: Facilitate community and media relations, ensuring all coverage of UNODC is monitored and reported to relevant staff.
Requirements and Qualifications
Education: A High School diploma is mandatory. A bachelor’s degree in journalism, communication, public relations, international relations, marketing, or development is highly desirable.
Professional Experience: A minimum of one (1) year of progressively responsible experience in communications and media, or related areas is required.
Organizational Context: Previous experience working within the United Nations system or similar international organizations is an added advantage.
Sector Knowledge: Experience supporting Criminal Justice or related sectors is highly desirable.
