Health Care Assistant

The Health Care Assistant role at Westland Medical Centre involves supporting nurses and providing essential direct patient care within a facility that offers general medical and ACC GP/Nurse appointments, alongside specialized services such as punch biopsy, minor surgery, ECG’s, vaccinations/immunisations (including travel and childhood), steroid injections, spirometry (breathing test), catheter care, liquid nitrogen (dry ice) treatment, ear suction, suturing, wound care, and contraception.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for the following key duties:

• Assist patients with daily living activities including hygiene, mobility, and feeding.
• Support nurses in monitoring patients' vital signs and general condition.
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of patient care areas.
• Assist with patient transfers and positioning.
• Ensure proper handling and disposal of medical waste.
• Uphold patient dignity, confidentiality, and safety at all times.
• Report any changes in patient condition to the nursing team.

Requirements

To be considered for this position, applicants must meet the following criteria:

• Qualification: Certificate in Healthcare Assistance or equivalent qualification. (A general BA/BSc/HND qualification was also listed).
• Experience: Minimum of two (2) years' relevant experience in a hospital or healthcare setting.
• Skills: Good communication and interpersonal skills.
• Availability: Ability to work shifts, weekends, and public holidays.
• Attributes: Must be compassionate, reliable, and team-oriented.
