Fulltime Faculty Medical Physiology

The role is for a full-time Lecturer in Medical Physiology within the Department of Biomedical Sciences. This multi-disciplinary department includes expertise in Human Anatomy, Biochemistry, Medical Physiology, and Pharmacology, focusing on inspiring, innovating, and leading in Biomedical Science teaching and learning. The successful faculty member will be central to delivering high-quality teaching in Medical Physiology across the MBChB (Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery) and BSc Nursing undergraduate programmes.

Furthermore, the faculty will have an important role in embedding research expertise into the discipline and the Department of Biomedical Sciences, and will be required to develop high-quality, productivity-driven networks both internally across Aga Khan University (AKU) and externally with local, national, and international partners.

Responsibilities

Duties include, but will not be limited to:

• Teaching Medical Physiology and providing academic advice and support to Medical College as well as School of Nursing and Midwifery (SONAM) students.
• Contributing to curriculum development and innovation in teaching, learning, and assessment in Medical Physiology, and working closely with colleagues to create an effective integrated curriculum.
• Contributing to the regular evaluation and development of blocks that include Medical Physiology in terms of content, delivery, and assessment.
• Developing proposals for research funding and presenting academic papers in conferences/seminars/workshops/symposia.
• Contributing to scholarship in medical education or other areas of inquiry within the Medical College and the School of Nursing and Midwifery (SONAM) in collaboration with colleagues.
• Representing the Medical College and SONAM at local, regional, and national meetings relevant to medical education and the specialist subject of Medical Physiology, interfacing with internal and external bodies and developing leadership in this domain.

Requirements and Qualifications

The successful candidate must meet the following qualifications:

• A Medical degree or a good honours degree in Medical Physiology or a related discipline.
• A Postgraduate degree in Medical Physiology or another relevant subject.
• Accomplished teaching of Medical Physiology in an undergraduate medical programme (or similar) using evidence-informed interactive approaches for large and small groups, and incorporating information technology.
• Experience teaching postgraduates and undergraduates in programmes other than MBChB or BSc Nursing (or equivalent).
• Experience in educational management that ensures well-organized delivery with continuous quality improvement.
• A track record of publications in international journals.
• Excellent interpersonal skills, a flexible work approach, and strong teamwork abilities.
• Competence in IT and internet usage, especially for e-learning purposes.
• Excellent communication and presentation skills.
