The Finance Manager will oversee the day-to-day activities of the finance team and ensure that the company's finance function is organized and efficient to produce accurate financial and management accounts.
Core Duties and Responsibilities
Overseeing the day-to-day activities of the finance team and ensuring that the company's finance function is organized and efficient.
Working closely with the Managing Director and heading up day-to-day financial activities including: preparation of month-end accounts, all compliance returns, bank and balance sheet reconciliations, accruals and prepayments, year-end statutory accounts, payroll, and the management of accounts receivables.
Setting and checking targets and monitoring the performance of each department within the business in line with their set budgets.
Implementing and maintaining all financial controls and systems within the business, identifying and recommending potential operational inefficiencies and improvements to working practices and procedures.
Preparation and management of annual budgets, forecasts, and cash flows.
Management of the entity’s statutory audit.
Financial Reporting
Responsible for overseeing the review, design, implementation, and maintenance of internal controls relevant to the preparation and fair presentation of financial statements.
Leading teams in preparing monthly management accounts within 8 days of end month, plus preparation of annual financial statements in accordance with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS).
Preparation of trial balance and financial accounts in line with International standards for auditing purposes within 20 days of the end of the accounting year.
Budgeting and Forecasting
Ensuring that the entity has a formally prepared and approved budget for the Financial Year in place.
Primarily responsible for the preparation of the finance department budget and consolidation of departmental budgets.
Ensuring that the board approves prepared budgets, as well as reviewing quarterly prepared budgets to check compliance.
Monitoring of the prepared budgets to ensure that spend is per budget, as well as analyzing and explaining causes of variances or deviations from budgeted figures.
General Accounting
Overall month-end closure activities, including various reconciliations to ensure management reports are submitted within 8 working days of month-end.
Review, design, implementation, and maintenance of internal controls relevant to the preparation and fair presentation of financial statements free from material misstatement.
Facilitating the management of financial analysis and cost accounting, as well as conducting risk management and internal audits.
Preparing cash flow forecasts for ongoing operations and feeding them into the cash flow projection.
Taxation and Tax Planning
Key contact on all local laws and regulations for tax and compliance purposes.
Offer guidance in the monthly preparation and submission of the company’s PAYE, VAT, and withholding tax through the iTax system and subsequent payments of the amounts submitted to the KRA.
In charge of review of company’s monthly payroll, as well as preparing monthly payroll statutory deductions such as NSSF, NHIF, and PAYE for payment within statutory deadlines.
Preparing quarterly VAT and PAYE returns and submitting these within statutory deadlines.
Requirements
Bachelor of Commerce degree (Finance / Accounting).
CPA (K) or ACCA Final.
5 or more years’ of experience.
Knowledge of tax laws and regulations.
Experience in financial planning and management.
Development of policies and procedures.
