National Defence University - Kenya (NDU-K), established under the Universities Education Act, 2012, is looking to recruit a Finance and Accounts Officer - Grade 9. The University offers specialized education in Defence and security sectors and is based at Lanet, Nakuru County. This role involves maintaining financial records, managing ledgers, and ensuring the accuracy of statutory and student-related financial transactions.
Duties and Responsibilities
Preparing and reviewing periodic expenditures return.
Maintaining the general ledger and ensuring accuracy in financial records.
Assisting in tax accounting and the timely remittance of statutory deductions.
Keeping safe custody of all payments and journal vouchers.
Checking and processing contract payments and other university disbursements.
Issuing demand notes and following up on delinquent accounts.
Maintaining up-to-date asset registers.
Preparing payment vouchers and bank reconciliation statements.
Ascertaining the accuracy of Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) returns and updating student details.
Reconciling student accounts and preparing customer invoices for services rendered.
Undertaking regular banking duties.
Participating in quality management and performance contracting processes.
Requirements for Appointment
Cumulative service period of at least three (3) years’ relevant work experience at the grade of Finance and Accounts Officer II or in a comparable position.
Bachelor’s degree in Commerce, Accounting, Finance, or its equivalent qualification from a recognized and accredited institution.
Certified Public Accountant (CPA) Part II or equivalent qualification from an accredited examination body.
Registered with the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya (ICPAK).
Proficiency in computer applications.
Demonstrated merit and ability as reflected in work performance and results.
