Assistant Director, Internal Audit - Grade 6

National Defence University-Kenya (NDU-K) was established under Section 24 of the Universities Education Act, 2012. The University offers specialized certificates, diplomas, and degrees in areas related to Defence and security, as well as other dimensions of security. NDU-K is seeking a highly qualified professional for the position of Assistant Director, Internal Audit. The role involves formulating internal audit policies and providing assurance on risk control effectiveness and the adequacy of risk management processes.

Responsibilities

• Formulating and coordinating the implementation of internal audit policies, strategies, and plans.
• Compiling and issuing internal audit reports to Management and the University Board as appropriate.
• Setting up and implementing process and systems audits in accordance with international auditing standards.
• Evaluating the effectiveness of the internal control framework for preventing and detecting irregularities.
• Providing assurance on risk control effectiveness, efficiency, and adequacy of risk management processes.
• Assisting external auditors when required and managing the implementation of Board Audit committee resolutions.
• Providing leadership in conducting audits, investigations, and special system audits.
• Managing the audit lifecycle by monitoring and tracking progress of assignments allocated to auditors.
• Building and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders and providing feedback on fraud and industry trends.
• Ensuring increased awareness of the impact of fraud and regulatory risks within the organization.
• Providing strategic input into corporate risk and audit plans.
• Managing the close-out process of systems and forensic investigations.

Requirements

• A cumulative service period of twelve (12) years of relevant work experience, with at least three (3) years at the grade of Principal Internal Auditor or a comparable position.
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, Economics, Business Administration, Business Management, or an equivalent qualification.
• Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, Economics, Business Administration, or an equivalent qualification.
• Certification in Part III of CIA, CPA, or ACCA.
• Registration with the Institute of International Auditors (IAA/IIA).
• Possession of a valid practicing certificate from a relevant professional body.
• Completion of a Leadership Course lasting at least four (4) weeks from a recognized institution.
• Proficiency in computer applications and demonstrated merit in work performance.
