CEFA (the Seed of Solidarity) is a non-governmental organization that has been working for 50 years to defeat hunger and poverty. We are looking for a Field Officer to support and supervise disaster risk management and community resilience activities under the 'GROW' project (Gender-Responsive Opportunities for Water Access, Livelihood Recovery and Climate Resilience for Vulnerable Communities) in West Pokot County. The project aims to improve living conditions and response capacity to climate shocks in ASAL areas through WASH services, food security, and disaster risk reduction.
Responsibilities
Planning & Implementation: Support the community-level implementation of DRR activities in coordination with partners and local authorities.
Assessments: Conduct risk and vulnerability assessments, including hazard mapping and capacity analysis in intervention areas.
Community Building: Establish and strengthen Community Disaster Management Committees (CDMCs) and local resilience groups.
Resource Management: Promote sustainable natural resource management (soil, water, and forest) to mitigate environmental risks.
Integration: Work with WASH and agriculture teams to integrate resilience and climate adaptation into project components.
Training: Facilitate awareness sessions on early warning systems, preparedness, and drought/flood management.
Beneficiary Selection: Assist in selecting beneficiaries based on equity and vulnerability criteria.
Monitoring & Evaluation: Collect qualitative and quantitative data for MEAL reporting and document success stories.
Safeguarding: Ensure inclusion, gender equity, and safeguarding principles are followed in all activities.
Qualifications and Experience
Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Environmental Sciences, Engineering, Agriculture, Disaster Risk Management, or related fields. A Diploma with significant relevant experience will also be considered.
Experience: At least 2 years of professional experience in DRR, climate adaptation, or emergency management projects.
Riding License: Must possess a valid Kenyan motorcycle riding license (minimum Class A2) and be willing to ride in rural/remote areas.
Skills: Strong knowledge of M&E tools, proficiency in Microsoft Office, and ability to conduct hazard mapping.
Local Context: In-depth knowledge of West Pokot County challenges and risks; proficiency in the Pokot language is a significant asset.
Communication: Excellent written and spoken English proficiency.
Compensation
Salary: KES 45,000 – 70,000 gross per month (commensurate with experience).
Term: Fixed term, one year with possibility of extension.
