Job Description
The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is seeking an Electric Mobility and Gender Consultant for the Asia-Pacific region. Under the supervision of the Asia-Pacific Regional Mobility Lead and in close consultation with the Gender Focal Point of UNEP’s Sustainable Mobility Unit (SMU), the consultant will support the implementation of gender-transformative approaches within sustainable transport initiatives.
Responsibilities
Baseline Study: Conduct a study on End-of-Life Management of Electric Two- and Three-Wheeler (E2/3W) Batteries in Asia-Pacific, covering three countries. This includes methodology, stakeholder mapping, regulatory analysis, and mapping of pathways such as collection, repair, reuse, and recycling.
Gender-Transformative Training Framework: Develop a 5–7 page framework drawing on lessons from six BMZ pilot projects (Kenya, Uganda, Vietnam, Indonesia, Ecuador, and Colombia) to provide guidance on inclusive curriculum design and delivery models for women.
Regional Thematic Accelerator: Deliver an accelerator event on Industry and Gender in E-Mobility in collaboration with GIZ and regional partners, including the development of agendas and comprehensive reports.
Knowledge Development: Support regional knowledge dissemination by creating products and case studies documenting women’s participation across the e-mobility value chain.
Implementation Support: Provide technical support to the BMZ-Funded Programme Phase III in Indonesia, focusing on increasing women’s participation and institutionalizing gender-responsive training pathways.
Ad-hoc Support: Assist the SMU Asia-Pacific portfolio with presentations, stakeholder correspondence, and other documentation as required.
Requirements and Qualifications
Education: An advanced university degree (Master’s or equivalent) in gender studies, sustainable transport, urban planning, or related fields. A first-level degree with an additional 2 years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of an advanced degree.
Experience: At least 5 years of experience working on sustainable transport, electric mobility, and/or gender is required.
Regional Expertise: Proven expertise in sustainable transport projects within the Asia-Pacific region is required.
Technical Knowledge: Solid understanding of electric mobility technologies, trends, and policy frameworks is required.
Communication: Excellent skills in stakeholder engagement, technical writing, and presentation.
Desirable Attributes: Familiarity with international development frameworks (donor-funded projects), event planning experience, and prior experience with international organizations or government agencies.
