Job Description
The Durable Solutions Coordination and Community Engagement Expert will support the UN-Habitat Somalia Programme by providing technical expertise in community relations and inter-agency coordination. Based in Nairobi, the role involves developing engagement plans, creating communication materials, and ensuring that community voices are central to project activities.
Key Responsibilities
Community Engagement Planning: Draft and review comprehensive community engagement plans with clear objectives, timelines, resources, and accountability measures in coordination with project managers.
Communication & Outreach: Provide technical expertise for the development and dissemination of tailored communication materials such as newsletters, flyers, social media updates, and community bulletins.
Stakeholder Partnerships: Establish and maintain partnerships with community leaders, local organizations, and representatives from host and displacement-affected communities, with a specific focus on land tenure and housing development.
Community Feedback: Gather and integrate community insights and feedback into project activities to ensure that the voices of community members are reflected.
Content Creation: Work with the Communications Specialist to develop human interest stories, project background materials, and social media content.
Coordination Focal Point: Represent UN-Habitat in relevant coordination sessions under the Durable Solutions coordination architecture and relevant cluster meetings (Shelter, Protection, HLP AOR, etc.).
Documentation: Document key events and interactions with government, CSOs, and UN partners, providing strategic recommendations for programming.
Reporting: Provide technical support for project and donor reports and concept notes.
Monitoring & Evaluation: Undertake monitoring and evaluation activities for Durable Solutions Projects.
Requirements
Education: Advanced university degree (Master's) in International Relations, International Development, Peace and Conflict Studies, Urban Studies, Public Administration, or related social sciences is required.
Alternative Education: A first-level university degree (Bachelor's) combined with two additional years of relevant experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree.
Experience: Minimum of two (2) years of professional working experience in project management, including coordination of complex multi-partner and multi-sector projects.
Thematic Expertise: Required experience in migration, durable solutions for displacement-affected communities, crisis response, or urban management.
Regional Context: Work experience in Somalia or another country in a post-conflict phase with protracted displacement is highly desirable.
Partnership Experience: Experience working with international agencies and governance counterparts is desirable.
