This role is for Driver I (3 Positions) at The Open University of Kenya. The successful candidates will be responsible for providing safe and authorized transportation services, ensuring the operational readiness, security, and cleanliness of assigned vehicles, thereby supporting the overall administrative and academic functions of the University.
Duties & Responsibilities
The responsibilities of the Driver I include:
- Carrying out routine checks on vehicles.
- Driving motor vehicle as authorized.
- Maintaining work tickets for vehicles assigned.
- Ensuring security and safety for the vehicle on and off the road.
- Ensuring the safety of persons and/or goods in the vehicle.
- Maintaining cleanliness of the vehicle.
- Detecting and reporting malfunctioning vehicles.
- Maintaining records on repairs and maintenance.
Required Qualifications and Competencies
For appointment to this grade, candidates MUST meet the following mandatory requirements:
Experience:
- At least six (6) years of experience, three (3) of which should have been at the Driver III or its equivalent.
Education and Certification:
- Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) Mean Grade D (Plain) or equivalent qualification.
- Valid driving license free from any current endorsements and valid for any of the classes of vehicles or plants which the officer is required to drive.
- Passed Occupational Trade Test for Drivers Grade III from Kenya Institute of Highway and Building Technology (KIHBT) or Ministry of Roads and Public Works.
- Passed Suitability Test for Drivers Grade III from Kenya Institute of Highway and Building Technology or Ministry of Roads and Public Works.
- Defensive driving certificate from Automobile Association (AA) of Kenya or its equivalent qualifications from a recognized and accredited institution.
- First-Aid Refresher Certificate Course lasting not less than one (1) week from St. John Ambulance or Kenya Institute of Highway and Building Technology (KIHBT) or any other recognized institution.
- Valid Certificate of Good Conduct from the Kenya Police Service.
Skills:
- Proficiency in computer applications.
