Role Overview
The Kenya School of TVET (KSTVET), formerly Kenya Technical Trainers College (KTTC), is a government institution under the Ministry of Education. The Director, Academic and Student Affairs is responsible to the Principal/Chief Executive Officer for all academic and training matters and the administration of academic support departments.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee the administration of all academic matters and the development, review, and implementation of academic policies and curricula.
- Ensure maintenance of high academic and professional standards for all programs.
- Oversee the preparation and implementation of the annual academic calendar to guide school operations.
- Provide support for scholarly activities such as seminars, conferences, and workshops for continuous professional development.
- Monitor and evaluate directorate staff to maintain high training standards.
- Guide requests for hiring, transfer, deployment, and training of staff in the academic directorate.
- Advise on quality assurance aspects to ensure conformity with academic policy requirements.
- Develop, implement, and periodically review departmental work plans.
- Oversee student welfare programs and coordinate training in common areas of study across departments.
- Plan, monitor, and control budgets and expenditure for the directorate.
- Liaise with the Directorate of Research for institutional research and strategy activities.
- Participate in research and consultancy and coordinate the publication of curriculum support materials.
- Manage performance targets for the Directorate and oversee the Quality Management System for Academic Programs.
Job Specifications
- Experience: Cumulative service period of fifteen (15) years relevant work experience, with at least three (3) years at the grade of Deputy Director or a comparable position.
- Education: Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees in relevant disciplines such as Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, etc.), Computer Science, Hospitality Management, Applied Sciences, Agriculture, Business Administration, or Project Management.
- Professional Status: Membership to a professional body where applicable and in good standing.
- Certifications: Pedagogy qualification and registration as a trainer by TVETA.
- Leadership: Certificate in a Leadership Course lasting not less than 4 weeks from a recognized institution.
- Skills: Proficiency in computer applications and demonstrated managerial and administrative capability.
