Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI) is a State Corporation responsible for carrying out health research in Kenya. We are seeking a qualified Data Manager to join our team in Kilifi. The successful candidate will oversee the entire data management lifecycle for assigned research projects, ensuring data integrity, security, and high-quality analysis.
Key Responsibilities
Data Management Systems: Develop and implement Data Management plans, systems, and tools for collecting, entering, cleaning, storing, and archiving data for assigned projects.
Analysis and Interpretation: Conduct data analysis and interpretation using data generated by study sites according to project specifications.
Scientific Dissemination: Contribute to writing, dissemination, and publishing of research work by providing statistical expertise in preparing summaries, reports, and briefs for internal and external meetings or workshops.
Coordination and Reporting: Coordinate the study team and prepare various ad hoc or scheduled progress reports for the Principal Investigator (PI), committees, and other researchers.
Collaboration: Build and maintain relationships and networks with other department study teams, IT staff, data clerks, and data supervisors.
Security and Compliance: Implement and enforce regular data security activities (storage, backups, archiving, user administration) and ensure full compliance with internal ethical and Research Governance protocols.
Database Development: Liaise closely with programmers to create, test, and implement databases and case report forms (CRFs) as per project requirements.
Documentation: Develop screening logs and maintain proper documentation throughout all research phases to meet legal, ethical, and regulatory requirements.
Requirements and Qualifications
Education: Minimum Bachelor’s Degree in Statistics or any other relevant field from a recognized university.
Experience: Minimum of Four (4) Years of experience at a reputable organization.
Technical Proficiency: Mastery of statistical packages or coding languages such as R, STATA, or Python.
System Knowledge: Practical knowledge of SQL-compliant DBMS (preferably MySQL), and health research database systems like OpenClinica, openMRS, ODK, and REDCap.
Interpersonal Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to work in diverse, multidisciplinary teams.
Analytical Skills: Strong ability to deliver quality outputs within strict timelines while maintaining high levels of integrity and confidentiality.
