Job Description
Safaricom is the leading provider of converged communication solutions in Kenya. Reporting to the Senior Manager – Project Management, the Agile Coach will provide expertise to tribes/CoEs, squads and chapters in the adoption of agile ways of working, ensuring standardization and consistency of agile practices, cadence, and routines across teams.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership Coaching: Coach Tribe leads, Tribe Tech Leads, Team leads, Chapter Leads, and Product Owners. Empower squad/team members to deliver aspirational OKRs for business performance.
Innovation & Experimentation: Coach teams to identify value opportunities and run experiments to test them to drive an innovation culture.
Facilitation: Facilitate squads’ agile way of working through Safaricom Agile Blueprint best practices. Adhere to ceremonies including 6-week look aheads, 2-week sprints, POCLAC, PO sync, Monthly Tribe reviews, Big Room Planning, and Quarterly Business Reviews.
Training: Deliver training programs for all employees as part of agile capability building, including bootcamps, "Ask Me Anything" (AMA) sessions, and chapter-specific training.
Mentorship: Focus on squads and tribes' continuous improvement by creating a psychologically safe environment for healthy conflict and meaningful collaboration.
Agile Maturity: Conduct pulse surveys every two months to measure adoption of Agile principles. Perform people and mindset performance evaluations via 360-degree feedback.
Professional Development: Develop professional skills through the Agile Coach craft learning journey and coordinate chapter boosts for best practice sharing.
Capability Building: Provide ongoing agile capability building to tribes and squads through day-to-day coaching.
Standardization: Ensure integrity and accountability by upholding the company code of conduct, policies, and procedures including safety and health guidelines.
Requirements & Qualifications
Agile Knowledge: Demonstrate strong knowledge and background of agile concepts.
Certifications: Possess certifications in agile practices such as Professional Scrum Master (PSM) or Professional Scrum Product Owner (PSPO).
Education: A Bachelor’s degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) from an accredited college or university is preferred.
Industry Experience: Experience in the IT industry and a solid understanding of the full software development life cycle (SDLC).
Tooling: Experience with at least one tracking tool like Jira, Confluence, or Microsoft Teams.
Product Management: Experience in writing and working with product requirements, features, and user stories is preferred.
