
Agriculture and Food Authority
The Agriculture and Food Authority (AFA) is a state corporation established to regulate, develop, and promote scheduled crops value chains for increased economic growth in Kenya. The Crops Development Officer II is an entry and training grade for this cadre. An officer at this level will work under the guidance of a senior officer and may be deployed in either Crops Development or Capacity Building functional areas.\n\n### Key Responsibilities\n\n#### In Crops Development:\n- Document and maintain custody of collected and collated needs from stakeholders for the development and promotion of scheduled crops.\n- Generate reports on identified potential enterprises for promoting scheduled crops.\n- Maintain records of identified investment opportunities based on investment guides.\n- Collect information on production trends for advisory and informed decision-making.\n- Maintain databases on emerging issues related to scheduled crops, including agro-climatic conditions, climate change, pests and diseases, youth in agriculture, and mechanization.\n- Manage research needs databases regarding emerging issues affecting crops value chains.\n- Maintain information on sources of clean planting materials.\n- Collaborate with stakeholders in establishing centers for accessing quality farm inputs.\n\n#### In Capacity Building:\n- Compile data on capacity needs for stakeholders and maintain training materials.\n- Coordinate invitations and identify venues for capacity building and awareness creation.\n- Document Technologies, Innovations, and Management Practices (TIMPs) for scheduled crops.\n- Establish experimental stations and model farms for knowledge and technology transfer.\n- Conduct field days to disseminate technologies, innovations, and management practices.\n- Create awareness regarding quality inputs and authorized input suppliers.\n\n### Requirements and Qualifications\n- A Bachelor’s Degree in any of the following disciplines: Agricultural Economics, Agriculture, Environmental Sciences, Agricultural Engineering, Biosystems Engineering, Horticulture, Agronomy, Crop Protection, Agribusiness Management, Food Science and Technology, or an equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.\n- Proficiency in Computer applications.\n\n### Compliance Requirements\nShortlisted candidates will be required to satisfy the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution of Kenya 2010 by providing:\n- Police Clearance Certificate from the DCI.\n- Clearance Certificate from HELB.\n- Tax Compliance Certificate from KRA.\n- Clearance from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC).\n- Report from an Approved Credit Reference Bureau (CRB).\n- Clearance from the Commission for University Education for degrees obtained outside Kenya.
