Job Description
The U.S. Embassy in Nairobi is seeking a Consular Associate to work under the direct supervision of a Consular Officer. The incumbent is assigned a wide range of responsibilities across various units including the American Citizen Services (ACS) Unit, Nonimmigrant Visa (NIV) Unit, Immigrant Visa Unit, and/or Fraud Prevention Unit (FPU). This role is restricted to U.S. Citizen Eligible Family Members (USEFMs).
Role and Responsibilities
Provide a variety of consular services to U.S. citizens.
Conduct non-adjudicatory visa processing tasks.
Assist in investigation and validation studies to ensure program integrity.
Handle official correspondence with the public, legal representatives, U.S. and host government entities, and Congressional offices.
Input and manage data within consular systems with high accuracy, identifying and correcting errors made by applicants or staff.
Maintain organizational systems, including task management and filing.
Draft official correspondence and reports as required.
Qualifications and Requirements
Education: Completion of High School is required.
Language: Level IV (Fluent) speaking, reading, and writing of English is required.
Security: Must be able to obtain and maintain a Department of State (DOS) Secret level security clearance.
Eligibility: This position is open only to U.S. Citizen Eligible Family Members (USEFMs).
Required Skills and Abilities
Proficiency in MS Office Suite and general computer operations, including database management.
Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks.
Excellent interpersonal skills with the tact and judgment necessary to deal with the public under sensitive circumstances.
Sensitivity in evaluating evidence and the ability to apply complex regulations correctly.
Ability to learn and interpret applicable U.S. and host country laws and legal precedents.
