Under the overall supervision and direction/guidance of Senior Management at the SCS-SAP Project Coordination Unit, the Communications Specialist (CS) will lead strategic communication and outreach efforts for the project. The role involves developing a comprehensive communication strategy to enhance project visibility and stakeholder engagement, particularly focusing on sustainability as the project enters its final two years.
Key Responsibilities
- Strategy & Planning: Develop a brief communication strategy, including a stakeholder mapping exercise, integrating sustainability considerations for the remaining project period.
- Stakeholder Management: Develop, maintain, and update an SCS-SAP partners/stakeholders contact list/database.
- Digital Presence: Lead the re-design and regular updating of the SCS-SAP project website, transforming it into an interactive platform for stakeholders.
- Partner Collaboration: Ensure adequate linkages between the project website and partner websites; support the development of project-related content on partner platforms.
- Advisory Role: Advise the Senior Project Manager (SPM) and staff on media and strategic approaches to raise awareness of project goals, activities, and results.
- Content Creation: Review, edit, and write dissemination materials including press releases, PowerPoint slides, web stories, booklets, leaflets, newsletters, and infographics.
- Media Relations: Promote and develop working relationships with media houses and practitioners in Participating States; organize media events such as interviews, panel discussions, and town hall meetings.
- Social Media: Utilize platforms like Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube to reach targeted audiences with specially developed information.
- Knowledge Sharing: Prepare Project Experience Notes for the global Large Marine Ecosystem (LME) Practitioners Community and support the development of the “State of the marine ecosystems” reports.
- Technical Integration: Incorporate innovative technologies and tools to support communication goals; contribute to the communicational elements of Project M&E activities.

Qualifications and Experience
- Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, social sciences, journalism, public relations, marketing, or environmental sciences with 7 years of relevant experience.
- OR a Master’s degree in the same fields with 5 years of relevant experience.
- Experience: Professional experience in communications and public relations is essential.
