Tax Justice Network Africa (TJNA) is seeking a Communications, Campaigns and Outreach Manager to drive the organization's messaging and visibility. The Communications Manager sets the tone for all internal and external messaging, ensuring it aligns with TJNA’s values and strategic vision. This role involves cross-functional collaboration with senior management to define messaging needs, establishing strategic relationships with media outlets, and curating content that resonates with TJNA's diverse constituency across the continent and beyond.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Communications & Brand Management
- Lead the implementation of the Communication strategy and design a multi-channel action plan.
- Identify opportunities for thought leadership on tax issues through conferences and policy dialogues.
- Develop and communicate advocacy messages, fact sheets, policy briefs, blogs, and campaigns.
- Coordinate the development and production of publications and advocacy materials.
- Oversee the quality of social media content, media releases, and visual content to ensure brand standards are met.
- Direct and manage campaign execution including timelines, content, and logistics.
- Assess channel effectiveness using metrics and analytics to protect and preserve the organization's reputation.
Leadership & Departmental Management
- Establish the department's strategic direction and coordinate cross-functional initiatives.
- Oversee the recruitment and performance of a diversely skilled communications team.
- Manage the departmental operational budget and reporting.
- Provide strategic input to the Executive Director on TJNA's vision, goals, and policies.
Relationship Management & Outreach
- Collaborate with programs, knowledge management, and advocacy departments to identify messaging priorities.
- Act as the official media liaison and communications spokesperson for TJNA.
- Develop and foster relationships with key media players.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, or Journalism.
- A Master’s degree in communications or a related field is an added advantage.
- At least 10 years of professional experience in communications, with at least 5 years in a leadership role (ideally within a research/advocacy non-profit).
- Proven experience managing remote and diverse teams.
- Demonstrated proficiency with communications technologies.
- Ability to translate complicated technical content into accessible concepts and messaging.
- Experience in strategic communications, crisis management, and implementing successful campaigns.
- Bilingual proficiency in English and French is an added advantage.
- Understanding of the African development context and Civil Society environment.
- Proven experience in planning, budgeting, and analytics.
- Willingness to travel.
