The role of the Chief Superintending Architect is a senior position responsible for high-level management and technical oversight of architectural works and building programs within the County Government of Kitui. The incumbent will lead design coordination, site supervision, financial monitoring, and manage subordinate technical staff.
Terms of Service: Permanent and Pensionable.
Salary Scale: Ksh. 90,200 x 3,220 – 93,420 x 4,520 – 97,940 x 4,920 – 102,860 x 5,070 – 107,930 x 5,300 – 113,230 x 5,560 – 118,790 x 5,840 – 124,630 p.m.
Duties and Responsibilities
The Chief Superintending Architect will be responsible for:
- Management and Coordination of work in the preparation of scheme designs and production drawings of Projects in the Annual Works Programme.
- Controlling of activities on site.
- Supervision of projects during construction and maintenance.
- Monitoring of expenditure.
- Liaising with client Ministries/Departments on matters relating to design briefs and expenditure.
- Managing and coordinating field surveys and user reaction investigations.
- Analysis of data from field surveys and establishment of space standards and better architectural detailing.
- Monitoring and evaluation of sketch/scheme designs done by consultants for necessary recommendations for approval.
- Evaluation of consultants fees and making recommendations for payment.
- Assessment of training needs in the Units.
- Design and supervision of construction and maintenance of public buildings, civil and other public works.
- Research activities, administration and supervision of all staff working under him/her.
Requirements for Appointment
Applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Be a Kenyan Citizen.
- Served in the grade of Senior Superintending Architect or in a comparable and relevant position in the Public Service for at least three (3) years.
- Hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture or its equivalent and relevant qualification from a recognized institution.
- Be registered by the Board of Registration of Architects and Quantity Surveyors.
- Possess Corporate membership with the Architectural Association of Kenya (AAK).
- Must have attended a Project Development and Management course lasting not less than four (4) weeks from a recognized Institution.
- Must have attended a Management Course lasting not less than four (4) weeks from recognized Institution.
- Must have attended a Strategic Leadership Development Course lasting not less than six (6) weeks from a recognized institution.
- Demonstrated general administrative ability required for direction, control and implementation of building programs.
