This role is for a Basketball Coach to support the Basketball Experience – Disability Inclusion (BE-DI) Project in Machakos. The primary responsibility is delivering comprehensive basketball and life-skills training to learners in special and inclusive schools, ensuring inclusive sports programming for participants with various disabilities.
Job Summary
The Coach will be responsible for delivering life-skills clinics, school assemblies, and supporting the planning of major program activities for learners in special and inclusive schools under the Basketball Experience – Disability Inclusion (BE-DI) Project. The Coach will play a central role in inclusive sports programming, ensuring that basketball and life-skills sessions are engaging, adapted, and safe for all participants. They will work closely with Sign Language Interpreters (SLIs) and school P.E teachers to foster an inclusive, empowering learning environment.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Deliver weekly basketball and life-skills sessions aligned with the BE-DI curriculum.
- Adapt and modify sports activities to suit learners with visual, hearing, or physical disabilities.
- Ensure the safety, participation, and emotional well-being of all learners during sessions.
- Collaborate with SLIs and PE teachers to foster inclusive engagement and communication.
- Monitor learner attendance and progress; submit session reports to the Project Officer.
- Support the coordination and execution of inter-school events, including the launch, awareness day, and Final Games.
- Attend all required training, planning meetings, and performance evaluations.
- Uphold safeguarding, inclusion, and child protection standards at all times.
Minimum Qualifications
- BA/BSc/HND Qualification.
- 1-2 years' experience playing Basketball game as a player or coaching.
- Experience working with children, preferably inclusive or special needs settings.
- At least 1 year of experience in coaching basketball.
- Fluency in Kiswahili and English.
- Certification in First Aid and Child Safeguarding is an added advantage (not a requirement).
- Knowledge of Kenya Sign Language is a plus.
