Barista

The Barista role at Java House is essential for delivering the signature Java experience by expertly preparing beverages, engaging with customers, and maintaining the highest standards of service and counter cleanliness. This role requires dedicated adherence to operational procedures, strong teamwork, and proficiency in counter management.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Preparing and serving hot and cold drinks such as coffee, tea, artisan, and specialty beverages.
• Handling customer interactions at various customer touch points.
• Consistently following the set Standard Operating Procedures (S.O.Ps) during production.
• Advising the Barista in charge on stock levels.
• Maintaining a clean, tidy, and working counter at all times.
• Assisting the Barista in charge in running the barista counter.
• Doing the daily stock take of counter products at the end of the shift.
• Collaborating with other team members to ensure a positive customer experience.
• Ensuring sufficient supply of products for sale in the counter by doing sufficient backup.
• Ensuring all take-away and eat-in orders are dispensed promptly according to the order docket.
• Arranging the pastry case and ensuring that it is always clean.
• Reconfirming of orders done on Vuka (POS system).
• Controlling of wastages.
• Ensuring there is enough change at all times.
• Maintaining shift float money and ensuring no shortages.
• Timely closure of counter variances.
• Taking care of counter machines.
• Ensure countable daily stock are done correctly.
• Carry out any other task as may be instructed by superiors.

Qualifications

• Education: BA/BSc/HND qualification is preferred.
• Skills & Attributes:
  • Ability to think and make quick decisions under pressure, strong interpersonal and problem-solving abilities.
  • Highly responsible & reliable.
  • Ability to work cohesively with fellow colleagues as part of a team.
  • In-house training in baristaring and service.
  • Excellent customer care technique and application.

Experience Requirements

• The candidate should have 6 months working experience as a certified Java House Staff in the Service Department (required for internal staff progression).
• Candidates must have 2 years working experience as a certified Java House Africa Staff OR 3 years working experience as a Barista in a certified coffee store.
• Be conversant with the Java House Africa coffee/beverage menu and dedicated to its systems and procedures.
