The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is seeking an Associate Programme Officer to provide specialized guidance for embedding the FRAME-ECO framework across projects within the Disasters and Conflicts Branch. This role is focused on ensuring coherence, integration, and strategic impact within the transboundary hazards portfolio. The officer will report to the Head of the Risk Management and Peacebuilding Section in Nairobi, in coordination with the Senior Advisor for Environmental Security in Athens.
Responsibilities
Provide specialized guidance to embed the FRAME-ECO framework across projects in the transboundary hazards portfolio.
Ensure coherence, integration, and strategic impact of assigned projects.
Deliver technical inputs and analysis to advance UNEP’s Sand and Dust Storms (SDS) work.
Provide specialized technical contributions to disaster risk reduction efforts specifically related to wildfires.
Provide thematic input on the integration of the FRAME-ECO framework across the broader transboundary hazards portfolio.
Work Assignments & Outputs
Output 1: Technical inputs and analysis advancing UNEP’s Sand and Dust Storms (SDS) work.
Output 2: Specialized technical contributions to UNEP’s disaster risk reduction-related work on wildfires.
Output 3: Thematic input on integrating FRAME-ECO across the transboundary hazards portfolio.
Qualifications and Skills
Education: A Master's degree in international development, management, social sciences, or equivalent academic qualifications. A first-level university degree combined with two (2) additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of an advanced degree.
Experience: Minimum of 2 years of qualifying experience supporting environmental, development, or humanitarian projects.
Teamwork: Experience working in multi-disciplinary teams, including both local and expatriate technical experts.
Organization: Prior work experience with UN agencies, international organizations, or development partners is considered an asset.
Expertise: Prior work experience specifically dealing with transboundary hazards is highly desirable.
